Coach Alastair’s Homemade Taco Seasoning

I. LOVE. TACOS.

Whenever possible, we like to cook at home instead of eating out.  So, making tacos at home is one of our families’ favorite Friday “refeed meals” (or as many call them – reward meals.)  However, we’ve been on a mission lately to simplify the ingredients in our foods. When we looked at all of the artificial “stuff” in the packaged taco seasoning, we decided to explore making our own using herbs and spices!

After a little bit of research on Google & Pinterest (along with some trial and error), we came up with the following recipe as our favorite blend that tastes even better than the packaged stuff. We use it in on tacos, vegetarian Boca Crumbs, ground chicken, ground turkey, our Fat Loss Salads & Fat Loss Stew, and pretty much everything else we want to give some flavor depth. Check it out:

Coach Alastair’s Favorite Taco Seasoning Recipe

  • 2 TBSP of Chili Powder
  • 2 TBSP of Ground Cumin
  • 2 TSP of Onion Powder
  • 2 TSP of Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 TSP of Cayenne Pepper (add more or less to adjust from Mild to Hot)
  • 1/2 TSP of Black Pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 TSP of Pink Himalayan Salt
  • 1/2 TSP of Ground Oregano

Other optional ingredients that we sometimes can add for more depth of flavor:

  • Smoked Paparika
  • Basil
  • Tumeric
  • Thyme

We took an empty spice bottle and repurposed it to hold our homemade taco seasoning blend. Click here for a graphic that you can download and save to your phone to make it even easier.

Enjoy!
